October 23 - 24, 1999 - The Wabasso Incident

Propane and Anhydrous Ammonia accidentally mixed in the same set of 2 30000 gallon tanks caused a combined response of several agencies...  The danger of the scene caused by the Anhydrous Ammonia damaging the seals of the propane tank.

hazmat1.jpg (26080 bytes) Mankato CAT (Chemical Assessment Team) offered assessment support of the danger area.  Also response planning support.  Other agencies involved were Redwood County Office of Emergency Management, State Fire Marshall, and the MN EPA.
hazmat2.jpg (24176 bytes) Wabasso Fire Department, Wabasso Ambulance, and Redwood County Sheriff's Department supplied safety support just outside off-load zone.

All crews worked well together to provide a very safe and effective response!
